Description
Following a facilities study the previous year, Architects Incorporated
designed site improvements and a building addition for this Lutheran
Church. Site improvements included doubling of the existing number
of parking spaces, designated handicap accessible parking spaces
and two new building approaches.
The
building addition replaces the former narrow corridor between the
sanctuary and the fellowship hall. The new generous size narthex
addition links educational wing with sanctuary and provides a new
office addition that monitors entry from east or west sides of the
building. Energy efficient vestibules provide an inviting entry
from both sides of the building into a narthex, which is lit by
clerestory windows. The addition also contains men's and women's
barrier-free toilet rooms and a warming kitchen opening into the
fellowship hall.
The
awkward declining ridge pitched roofs of the existing buildings
were very difficult to integrate so the addition was designed to
separate and allow existing forms to blend with addition and change
focus of church to new entry and narthex space.
