Description
Design for a new building at a prominent intersection in Battle
Creek's Historic Northside neighborhood began when committee members
were impressed by presentation boards for another project that were
being carried across the street to his office by Larry Rizor. After
unsatisfactory experiences with two other architectural firms, the
committee asked us to develop some concept sketches for their proposed
new building. Larry listened and responded to committee direction
and developed a design that created the desired image.
Unique
to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, denomination is the reading
room. Positioned so that staff can monitor activity in both areas
from one spot, the reading room is open to the public through a
separate entry near the street intersection.
The
new 6,800 square foot building integrates beautifully into the scale
of the surrounding residential neighborhood. The new sanctuary has
very good acoustics for the soloist and readers. Supporting facilities
include office, Sunday school rooms, reading rooms, and toilet facilities.
